Black British Director Daniel Alexander to Helm Iconic “Wizard of Oz” Horror Reimagining

BIRMINGHAM, UK – In a groundbreaking move coinciding with Black History Month, acclaimed Black British filmmaker Daniel Alexander is set to direct his debut feature film, “Gale,” a dark and twisted reimagining of the beloved classic “The Wizard of Oz.

Following the viral success of the concept trailer for “Gale – Stay Away From Oz,” which garnered millions of views across social media platforms, Alexander’s full-length feature has been greenlit and is currently in production.

“Gale – Yellow Brick Road” promises to deliver a psychological horror experience that subverts expectations and challenges the traditional narrative. The film follows Emily, the only living relative of an elderly Dorothy Gale, as she’s drawn into a terrifying version of Oz to settle unfinished business.

Daniel Alexander, an award-winning director and BAFTA Connect filmmaker, brings a fresh perspective to this iconic story. His involvement marks a significant milestone in the representation of Black directors in mainstream cinema, especially in reimagining classic tales.

“This project represents more than just a film,” says Alexander. “It’s an opportunity to showcase the diversity of talent in the British film industry and to prove that stories can be retold through different cultural lenses, enriching the cinematic landscape.”

Alexander’s previous works, including directing for BBC One’s “We Are England” series and his involvement with the Commonwealth Games official ceremony film, have established him as a rising star in the UK film scene.

The original concept trailer for “Gale” has amassed over 4.3 million views on YouTube, demonstrating the public’s appetite for this dark take on a beloved classic.
