Solihull resident Amanda Flanagan had her wish come true to enjoy a weekend break with her mother Wendy Grant, thanks to one of the UK’s leading providers of home care, Caremark. Wendy receives regular home care support from the team at Caremark Solihull. Amanda’s wish was granted through the company’s Care for a Wish initiative – a national campaign launched to mark Caremark’s 20th anniversary and create lasting memories for its customers.
Amanda has been her mum’s full-time carer for the past 11 years. With her mother’s health rapidly declining, as well as facing her own health issues and challenges as a carer, Amanda had her wish granted to enjoy some time away with her mum to help rekindle childhood holiday memories. In early October, Amanda and Wendy enjoyed two nights on Lake Windermere and a trip on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway.
Commenting on the role of Caremark, Amanda said: “I met Herkesh from Caremark Solihull at a carers information meeting when I was at breaking point. He told me about Caremark and how they could support us. I like that Caremark helps mum to live as independently as possible and support me in caring for her in the way I always have.”
Talking about what the trip meant to them both, Amanda continued:
“We were so excited to have our wish chosen. Mum and I had such a wonderful time that it felt like we were there much longer! As part of the trip, we also had a steam train ride and boat trip to Bowness. As I’d hoped, the train ride rekindled Mums memories from the past. She spoke about going on holiday by train as a child and chatted excitedly to other passengers.”
Amanda explained that the holiday provided by Caremark offered a valuable opportunity for her and her mother to spend time together. She noted that both of them were experiencing health challenges and that this trip was likely to be their last holiday.
Herkesh Malhi, Franchise Owner at Caremark Solihull, said: “It is incredible that Caremark has been able to grant these wishes for the people we care for. This gives our customers the chance to create moments of joy and memories that they can cherish.”
He continued: “This campaign isn’t only a celebration of 20 years – it’s a reminder of why we do what we do. We’re here to support people’s wellbeing, dignity and joy as we all believe life is for living, not just existing.”
