DS Automobiles opens its largest UK dealership in Leicester

Citroen spin-off DS Automobiles and the parent group’s Robins & Day dealer network have continued their UK expansion by opening the doors to their biggest British showroom to date.

The news comes as latest figures suggest domestic car sales have finally started picking up after the lockdown.

The new Abbey Lane Store has 17 workshop bays, with the possibility of adding a further six during peak times, and a used cars site which will eventually have more than 150 models from across the wider PSA group – including Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall as well as DS.

New UK car registrations started going up last month for the first time this year.

According to the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders 174,887 cars were registered in July, more than 10 per cent up on the same month in 2019.

Car sales took a hammering during lockdown and it is believed the steep rise reflected pent-up demand from buyers.

Sarjit Rana, general manager of the Leicester DS Store said: “We look forward to sharing the exciting story behind DS’ conception with our local customers, and seeing the continued growth of DS.

“It is a great honour to be working so closely with the DS team as we see the opening of their biggest store so far.

“I have full confidence that through the new DS Store Leicester we will see the ongoing progress of the DS brand and look forward to welcoming the first customers through the door.”

Alain Descat, managing director of DS Automobiles UK, said: “We have all been incredibly excited about the opening of the new DS Store Leicester.

“A lot of hard work and preparation has gone into getting the site ready so that customers can enjoy the full DS experience at our largest dealership in the UK so far.”

In line with Covid-19 guidelines the dealership will operate a one-way system to ensure customers and staff observe social distancing, and there are sanitising stations and cleaning protocols in place.

Staff also have their temperature taken twice a day and will wear personal protective equipment (PPE).

To mark the launch the dealership is planning to host a fashion show next spring the highlights the styling that goes into the DS range.
