No Man is an Ireland

7 May @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
£15.40

Stand-up poet Edward Tripp is bringing his show ‘No Man is an Ireland’ to Birmingham.

‘No Man is an Ireland’ is a uniquely surreal, standup poetry show, about cultural identity and domestic life – performed by award-winning Northern Irish comedian and former Bard of Exeter, Edward Tripp.

Edward is a comedian, visual artist and poet and is originally from Northern Ireland. He was appointed Bard of Exeter from 2022 – 2023. Edward also has the bizarre accolade of being the only UK City Bard to hold a poetry ‘anti-slam’ title at the same time as his Bardship. An anti-slam is the opposite to a poetry slam – a playful attempt to recognise and award particularly bad poetry. This means that Edward was recognized as the best and worst poet in the Southwest of England simultaneously.

Edward’s show explores his Irish/British citizenship, with poetry about defrosted wives, visits from Uncle Connor and one unforgettable tribute to the late Lady Diana. ‘No Man is an Ireland’ is the perfect show for anyone who enjoys spoken-word poetry, and if you dislike spoken-word poetry, this is probably the show for you too. Expect the unexpected…

…and hold on tight.

“Seek Edward out like buried treasure” – Spencer Jones, Comedian and Actor

“Absurd and Hysterical, he had the audience in stitches” – Razz Magazine

“Utterly unexpectable and very moreish” – Kate Copstick, The Scotsman

“Alan Bennett meets The Blair Witch Project” – Will Adamsdale, Comedian and Actor

“Tripp’s poetic moments are a treat, cohesive and engaging, and for newcomers, is the finest introduction to the marvels of spoken word” – Corr Blimey

“Speaking as a zookeeper – that was the most accurate impression of a turtle eating lettuce I have ever seen” – Jenna, audience member (and Zookeeper).
